Carbon tax has been discussed in South Africa since 2010 when the first discussion paper was published for comments by the National Treasury. The most recent version of the Carbon Tax Bill was published on 14 December 2017. The Bill is currently being considered by Parliament. Carbon tax is proposed to be implemented with effect from 1 January 2019.
