Seakle, a professional environmental scientist, holds an M Sc degree from the University of Cape Town. He was responsible for the environmental management program of the Department of Defence for 27 years, during which period he chaired the USA-RSA Environmental Security Working Group until his change in career. He was responsible for developing and implementing defence environmental policies, systems and programs, including the department’s Environmental Implementation Plan in accordance with NEMA. He was also involved in the strategic planning process of the department. He recently qualified in accounting and specialises in all aspects of environmental accounting. He is currently pursuing post-graduate academic studies in this field at the University of Pretoria focusing on the relationship between sustainability reporting and financial reporting. He is a SAQA qualified facilitator, assessor and moderator for outcomes-based education. He has been involved in developing and presenting courses on EMA. Seakle is also a founding member and director of the Environmental Management Accounting Network Africa (incorporated in terms of Section 21). He represents EMAN-Africa at project meetings of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Accounting Standards Board. Seakle also serves on the Steering Committee for the Environmental Goods & Services Forum. He serves as alternate South African expert on the ISO working group on material flow cost accounting.
